WishJar Privacy Policy

WishJar ("the app", "we", "us") is a shared wishlist and gift-pooling app for couples, developed by theyoung. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and who can see it.

Information we collect

WishJar is account-based. When you use the app, we collect:

• Account information: your email address, password (stored as a one-way hash, never in plain text), and display name.
• Account recovery information: a security question and answer you choose, used only to verify your identity if you reset your password. The answer is stored as a one-way hash.
• Couple pairing: when you pair with a partner using an invite code, we store the link between your two accounts.
• Wishlist content: item titles, descriptions, estimated prices, currency, and any product links you add to your wishlist.
• Gift and deposit activity: amounts deposited toward an item, optional notes and occasion labels, and who made each deposit — for items where you're a contributor to the gift pool.
• Occasions and surprise gift plans: dates, labels, and notes you add for anniversaries, birthdays, or planned surprise gifts.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, or camera access — the app doesn't request any device permission beyond internet access.

How we use this information

Information is used solely to operate the app's core features: authenticating you, pairing you with your partner, displaying wishlists, tracking gift contributions, and letting you recover your account if you forget your password. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not run analytics or tracking SDKs of any kind.

Who can see your information

• Your wishlist items (titles, prices, links) are visible to your paired partner and anyone you've invited into that item's gift pool via a share code — this is the app's core purpose.
• Your own wishlist's gift status (whether an item is in progress or fulfilled) is visible to you, but deposit amounts and who contributed are deliberately hidden from you if the item is yours — so a surprise gift stays a surprise. That detail is only visible to the giver(s).
• We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties, and we do not use any third-party advertising, analytics, or data-broker services.

Where your data is stored

All data is stored on servers we operate directly, encrypted in transit via HTTPS. Passwords and recovery answers are never stored in plain text.

Data retention and deletion

We retain your account and wishlist data for as long as your account is active. To request deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us at the email below — we'll process deletion requests within a reasonable time.

Children's privacy

WishJar is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
